The decision follows the release of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)’s guidance, on the sale of Viagra and sildenafil tablets from April 27.
Viagra is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, the chemical name for sildenafil, which treats erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men by increasing blood flow to the penis.
The MHRA’s guidance is based on a review of the drug’s safety and efficacy in treating erectile dysfunction.
It comes after studies found that sildenafil was more effective than Viagra in treating impotence, although it did have a lower risk of side effects compared to other similar ED treatments.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) advised patients not to take sildenafil, in particular men who are over the age of 65, as it could affect their sexual performance and lead to problems with erections.
However, the guidance was not forthcoming from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which had already released the guidance, and it was subsequently suspended by the MHRA.
